Summer Homework - Gemma Jackson

Activity one – Music Video Analysis
Examples - Blink 182 – The Rock Show
Blink 182 – All the small things
                    Blink 182 – What’s my age again?
Blink 182 – Up all night
Blink 182 are known for their chaotic performance based music videos. They add a random and crazy theme to their music videos that gets the audience engrossed into the music as well as it being visually appealing. Blink 182 are a pop punk band and follow the conventions of pop punk bands such as Sum 41, fall out boy etc. From their videos, Blink 182 export a care-free appeal to their audience. Their music videos are based a lot around performance, using a variety of shots from close ups to long shots to establish their setting and their instruments. However they do use narrative in some videos to gives the audience a video and lyric associated video (i.e in whats my age again when they run around the streets naked). Other than their instruments, Blink 182 use other pop punk conventional props such as skateboards in their music videos to follow what the audience expect from a pop punk music video.
Activity two – Primary Research
These are the actors that are going to play in the music video.
This band has been chosen as they know many Blink 182 songs and is actually a pop punk band and so they follow the conventions an audience would expect from a pop punk music video/band. The band has also agreed to be in the music video and we have briefed them on some of the activities we would like them to preform and they said that they are happy to participate.

The locations that we will be filming at are :

- A Skate Park
- A Childrens playground
- City Square

I have decided to choose these locations as I believe they all fit in with the conventions of what a blink 182 music video is like. The skate park establishes what the audience would expect from a pop punk video (with the band members doing stunts i.e riding with the camera strapped on the skateboard). The children’s playground fits in with the song lyrics, as the band will be performing and doing comical stunts on the playground and the same applies to the lions in Nottingham Market Square
