Activity One: The Iconograghy of the album cover
album covers can vary greatly they can be images, graphics, typography or a mixture of all. it is important to look at how constructs an album cover so you can gain audience seeing as these covers are usually to promote and advertise the artist or band as the image may go on t-shirts and posters so they have to make it interesting on the eyes. its not only to promote but to tell the audience what the band or artist is about and what kind of music they produce but also to maybe bring in a wider audience. with all of this taken into consideration immense thought is put in to logos.fonts, images and graphics so it attracts the audience that it is intended for.
As for images you have to look deeply in to what people can interpret them into and whether they have relevance to the artist or band. on hip hop albums it may suggest wealth and extravagance which is a typical convention to that genre.
how an image is composed also has a great effect how the artist or band may be perceived. Angles, shot type, focus, lighting, editing and framing may also create assumptions from the audience and this is something that must be right other wise it could be bad news for an artist or band.
Pink Floyd 'Dark Side of The Moon' is and iconic cover as it links to Pink Floyd immense light shows and also shows simplicity which is often the key to success
Activity Two :
1, This isn't the original cover for the single but as it only shows the music artist, but the real one is pink and white which is what people presumptions of candy are which is the title of the song and also show that he may be a lady's man which is what Robbie Williams has been stereotyped in in many cases.
2, Labrinths Cover just shows his face which may suggest that he's a pop artist as they mainly focus on the image more so than other artists, the cover suggests that hes with it and down with the kids as they say as that is his main target audience
3, Wiley's cover also suggest its aimed at a younger audience but as it isn't just him on the track it doesn't show his face, which also suggests that he isnt just a pop artist due to the fonts that are used on the front
4, Swedish House Mafia have a plain and simple one, which is just black and white. this may because you cant really up a face to them as they do alot of colaberations .
5, Adele sky fall doesn't have her face on the cover and her image as it is the bond theme song so it will be relevant to the artist, but the cover shows typical Bond references such as looking through the barrel of a gun which is always related to James Bond
6, Calvin Harris also like Swedish house mafia is a dance artist so isnt really portrayed by a face or images so he has also gone for interesting and a groovy plan back ground for his single
7,PSY has an cover that is very relevant as it drawn in the cartoon style that Koreans are known for it is also comical like the song itself which is typical for K-pop
8, rihannas cover is also black and white which suits her image as shes going for a more sophisticated look. but still sticks along the conventions of her genre
9, maroon 5s cover is simple and only stating the song title which just suggest they are promoting that song instead of the band as a whole but it is still appealing to the eyes which keeps people interested
10, taylor swift, keeps her image on her cover as she sells her self just as much of her music as shes popular among boys and girls and is typical of a pop artist.
Activity 3

This is an album cover for Dude Ranch which is and album cover from the artist that we are using in our project.This image portrays our musical genre as it random and comical which is what the bands image is. The cover tells us that is not you every day pop and chart music as they aren't majorly based on image as it has a picture of something else and this picture suggest that it is pop punk of the sort as it has the comical aspect to it. the image colour and font all go with the title, so it is made to look like a typical american ranch of which you'd expect to see yellows red oranges and black but i don't think this reflect on the artist image, just makes it more memorable which is what you would rather go for as it get word out more than just an image of the artists face. there aren't many evident forms and conventions other than it is quirky weird and original in comparison to other conventions

I chose this album cover from muse because I think it unusual and memorable. its also quite distinctive which makes it stand out from the crowd in comparison to many pop artist covers that tend to be very similar
WORST
this was the worst album as it is stereotypical of the title and not interesting to look at so there for not memorable, its plain bland and boring
